Reiki, as we know, is a Japanese term that means “life energy.” The Reiki promotes the belief that spiritual energy can be channeled through vocational teachers with the spirit of Reiki to heal the patient.

With its roots in ancient Tibet, Reiki is said to have rediscovered in 1914 by a Buddhist priest who was conceived Usui system, which was then introduced to the West in the 1930s. This system is still taught at the moment.

Homeopathic practitioners believe that a medicine can cure a patient, is capable of causing a similar disease in a person who is healthy. Most homeopaths give as an example the use of a small dose of red onion, which typically causes a runny nose and itchy eyes, to treat a cold, because it carries the same symptoms.

It is very difficult for most people to understand homeopathy, however, the trend toward this type of medicine continues to grow in the U.S. because some patients are confused with some forms of traditional medicine and are seeking more natural ways to treat their afflictions.

In fact, homeopathy uses only natural remedies, specifically, ultra-diluted doses of substances such as plants, minerals, and a variety of other substances found in nature. The original substance is diluted in water several times and shaken vigorously after each dilution. As a result, the patient receives only very small quantities, which makes this type of treatment very safe.

Homeopaths also believe that you should not treat disease, but rather to the person who is ill. In other words, the homeopath believes that the substance he or she provides the patient is not going to destroy a cancerous tumor directly, but allow your body to destroy the tumor.

Homeopathy has been used traditionally to treat chronic problems such as asthma or arthritis, although some cancer centers promote homeopathy as complementary therapy in cancer patients are treated by traditional therapies.

Some advocates of this type of medicine also believe that homeopathic remedies can cure cancer, but there is currently no scientific evidence to support these claims.

However, many cancer patients, including those who fight against malignant mesothelioma, have turned to homeopathy because it is natural fact and do not involve prescription drugs in their system and treatment of these side effects. Most professionals have seen some evidence that homeopathic substances may help reduce the pain associated not only with cancer but which is caused by treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation of mesothelioma. Others use it to treat the debilitating effects of other conventional therapies, including infection caused by reduced white blood cells, hair loss, nausea and vomiting, mouth sores, and weakness or fatigue.

Some cancer patients mesothelioma cite the fact that they have uncompensated general well-being when taking homeopathic remedies, even though these resources have no signs of curing your cancer. This is indicative of the strong mind-body connection promoted by homeopathic physicians. Many patients note in particular the disappearance or reduction of stress and depression that comes with a cancer diagnosis, thus, some homeopathic remedies are used in patients with end-stage cancer, in particular, with the aim of reducing the fear and anxiety often associated with death.

While there is no cure for mesothelioma, proponents of this type of medicine also believe that homeopathy has the ability to prevent disease.

Patients suffering from mesothelioma experience much pain. It is therefore natural to seek various ways to alleviate it. When the counter medications and prescribed fail, many patients come in seeking less traditional ways to combat the disease. Acupuncture is one of those ways.

A large number of studies conducted in the U.S. and abroad show that acupuncture is helpful in reducing pain associated with cancers such as mesothelioma and cancer treatments like chemotherapy. Other studies also show that acupuncture can reduce vomiting often associated with a variety of chemotherapeutic agents. However, other studies suggest that acupuncture can help improve the body’s immune system in general.

Fortunately, many of the participants in these studies were able to stop taking medication for pain by acupuncture significantly reduced the amount of medicines.

Currently, clinical trials are also studying the effects that acupuncture can have on other cancer symptoms or side effects of cancer treatment, including weight loss, cough, chest pain, fever, anxiety, depression, sweating night, flushing, dry mouth, slurred speech, and movement in the arms or legs. So far, the results suggest that acupuncture alleviates some of these symptoms or avoid getting worse.

With radiation therapy, it is possible to damage or destroy cancer cells through an intensive treatment of X-rays. Although not a cure for mesothelioma, radiation may be used at various stages of treatment of malignant mesothelioma. Often, radiation is the main treatment for patients with health problems. Radiation can also be used to eliminate small formations of cancer cells that surgery could ignore. When radiation is used in conjunction with surgery, radiation is known as adjuvant.

* External beam radiation

The form of radiation therapy is best known for external irradiation. A machine similar to the X-ray focusing powerful beams of light directly into the tumor, but from outside the body, thus ending the cancer cells under the skin.

* Internal Radiation (Brachytherapy)

When the radiation source is placed inside the body, radiation therapy is called brachytherapy. In the case of mesothelioma, the active materials are placed directly into the chest or abdomen.

The pericardium (the sac that surrounds and covers the heart) or tumors fluid accumulates in the spaces between the heart and the sac itself. The accumulation of fluid around the heart known as pericardial effusion. The fluid or the tumor may press the heart and thus cause discomfort. It may be necessary to perform a pericardiotomy to remove the pericardium. In order to drain excess fluid from a needle is inserted. This process allows pericardial drain fluid and help relieve pressure on the heart.

* Pleurodesis
Pleurodesis is a process that is sometimes used to control the pleural effusion or concentration of fluid between the lung and the lining layer. Pleurodesis can close the spaces between the lungs and the outer layer, thereby reducing the possibility of accumulation of fluids.
There are two methods of pleurodesis. In the first, a tube inserted into the chest drain fluid. After the fluids are drained, injected a sclerosing agent (a material that causes the tissue to heal or harden) as a sterile powder such as talc through the chest tube into the pleural space. The sclerosing agent distributes itself over time, while the patient is asked to move to allow better distribution of the agent. Once this is achieved, it connects a suction tube and the tube inserted. The suction causes the two pleural layers meet, as it happens to collapse a plastic bag, and this allows the two layers heal together.
The second method uses a thoracoscopic pleurodesis, which makes a small incision or several small incisions in the skin and a thoracoscope is inserted through the same, to get a better picture of the pleura. The sclerosing agent is then applied.
* Pneumonectomy
A pneumonectomy is the removal of part or all of the lungs. The surgeon makes an incision on one side of the chest. When the lung is found, the surgeon watches the tumor and then decide how much tissue should be removed.
* Extra pleural pneumonectomy
This surgery usually involves removal of the pleura, diaphragm, pericardium and the entire lung cancer tumor side. The surgeon might also remove some of the surrounding tissues.

These therapies are often used in conjunction with traditional treatments or include an entirely different method. Below is a list of some of the newer treatments for patients suffering from mesothelioma.

- Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy, also known as biological therapy, is one of the latest treatments for cancer, including treatment of mesothelioma. Immunotherapy involves the use of one’s own body’s defense mechanisms to fight against tumor cells. Medical specialists are exploring the elements of the immune system can restore, enhance, mimic, and manipulate to destroy cancer cells.

- Photodynamic therapy
Photodynamic therapy for treatment of mesothelioma is based on the idea that single cell organisms will die when exposed to light with a frequency specified by first been treated with certain photosensitive drugs. In photodynamic therapy, the drug is concentrated in the area where there are cancer cells, while being eliminated from normal cells. Then, cancer cells are exposed to laser light, which activates the photosensitive agent. Once the light is exposed to the cancer site, an active form of oxygen kills the surrounding cancer cells.

- Modulated radiation therapy Intensity
Modulated radiation intensity of radiation is a technique that allows the X-rays are taken of complex shapes and tumors located in close proximity to vital organs. This type of radiation beams with different frequencies used in conjunction with computer-generated images to plan and deliver radiation directly to cancerous tissue right, while decreasing the amount of radiation to healthy cells that are around.

- New Chemotherapy Agents
The new chemotherapy agents and combinations of agents are being developed and are being tested to improve treatment outcomes for patients with mesothelioma.

- Gene Therapy
Gene therapy for treatment of mesothelioma try to modify and correct an individual’s genes in DNA. This treatment also includes gene replacement therapy, which replaces a damaged or missing gene with a normal copy to control growth and cell division. The elimination of gene therapy attempts to inactivate the genes that can induce tumor growth.

- Alternative Treatments
There is a wide range of alternative and holistic treatments for treating mesothelioma including acupuncture, homeopathy, herbs, massage, and others. These therapies can be used as an alternative form of treatment or in conjunction with traditional treatments.

Approximately 20% of cases it is possible to objectify calcified pleural plaques. Often occurs hemithorax volume loss affection with ipsilateral mediastinal shift and elevation of the hemidiaphragm. With local progression, it is rare chest wall invasion, although the irregularity of the interface between wall and is not predictive of tumor invasion. Mesothelioma can invade the pericardium, manifested as irregularity and presence of the same stroke, and vascular structures.

Lung metastases manifesting as masses and nodules, rarely becoming miliary morphology. In 40% of the cases there lymph node metastases at the time of autopsy. Although CT is widely used in the evaluation of mesothelioma, remember that images enlarged lymph node does not necessarily imply that tumor invasion and may underestimate the involvement of the chest wall.

In various series, dyspnea and chest pain are the two most common initial symptoms leading to suspicion of disease, which presents insidiously, with several months of development up to be valued. The pain is usually pleuritic features and can not refer to the shoulder and upper abdomen due to diaphragmatic involvement.

As the disease progresses syndrome appears general, weight loss, anorexia, cough and fever.
Physical examination occasionally reveals the loss of hemithorax volume of affection and the semiology of pleural effusion with dullness on percussion and decreased breath to auscultation physiological. Some patients are asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis and uncommon initial presentation of metastatic disease.

Specifically, researchers found that the enzyme myeloperoxidase (MPO), which is found in white blood cells, can break down the material into water and carbon dioxide. The study, published in the journal Nature Nanotechnology, contradicts previous beliefs about the dangers associated with carbon nanotubes may be relevant for the future use of carbon nanotubes for medical purposes.
