Pericardial MesotheliomaPericardial mesothelioma, also known as cancer of the pericardium, is cancer in the sac surrounding the heart. Symptoms of cancer may include chest pains and shortness of breath.

The pericardium (the sac that surrounds and covers the heart) or tumors fluid accumulates in the spaces between the heart and the sac itself. The accumulation of fluid around the heart known as pericardial effusion. The fluid or the tumor may press the heart and thus cause discomfort. It may be necessary to perform a pericardiotomy to remove the pericardium. In order to drain excess fluid from a needle is inserted. This process allows pericardial drain fluid and help relieve pressure on the heart.
