Patients suffering from mesothelioma experience much pain. It is therefore natural to seek various ways to alleviate it. When the counter medications and prescribed fail, many patients come in seeking less traditional ways to combat the disease. Acupuncture is one of those ways.
A large number of studies conducted in the U.S. and abroad show that acupuncture is helpful in reducing pain associated with cancers such as mesothelioma and cancer treatments like chemotherapy. Other studies also show that acupuncture can reduce vomiting often associated with a variety of chemotherapeutic agents. However, other studies suggest that acupuncture can help improve the body’s immune system in general.
Fortunately, many of the participants in these studies were able to stop taking medication for pain by acupuncture significantly reduced the amount of medicines.
Currently, clinical trials are also studying the effects that acupuncture can have on other cancer symptoms or side effects of cancer treatment, including weight loss, cough, chest pain, fever, anxiety, depression, sweating night, flushing, dry mouth, slurred speech, and movement in the arms or legs. So far, the results suggest that acupuncture alleviates some of these symptoms or avoid getting worse.
