Characteristics MesotheliomaThe increasing worldwide incidence of malignant mesothelioma is not expected to sink another 10 to 20 years. It is possible that the incidence of malignant mesothelioma has already reached its peak in the United States,

while the peaks anticipated in Europe and Australia do not predict its appearance for another 10 to 15 years.
In Japan and other non-Western countries where the widespread use of asbestos occurred late on Western countries there is a delay in the peak incidence of this disease.

There is great concern about the increased use of asbestos in developing countries, this may result in increased incidence of malignant mesothelioma for many decades, unless there is strong occupational health checks.

Malignant mesothelioma has occurred in three major cohorts of people exposed to asbestos. The initial cases occurred in people directly exposed to asbestos at work, especially those exposed to blue asbestos mining or milling.
The clearest evidence of this exhibition has been seen in Australia Mimas (Wittenoom) one of the worst industrial disasters in history. Not only were affected miners, but also children playing in the yards of schools or playgrounds that were covered by asbestos fibers instead of soft grass.

This produced an epidemic of mesothelioma in young adults. Subsequently asbestos-related diseases were observed in other exposed workers in late in the chain of manufacture and use of asbestos products such as plumbers, carpenters, defense personnel and installers of asbestos insulation.

The third group of people affected, representing about 20-30% of current cases of malignant mesothelioma, consists of those who were exposed to asbestos fibers released into the atmosphere in industrialized countries.

Familial forms have been reported of malignant mesothelioma showing a possible autosomal dominant subjects of Cappadocia, Turkey.
